The service usually starts with a security review, covering the physical threats, perimeters through to buildings and the different layers of protection, including tools employed that make up a school’s security profile. This service also includes feedback on the school’s ability to protect themselves against attacks that are generally termed as Lockdown situations. This section of the report is referred to as Lockdown preparedness, the ability to communicate an emergency situation and the differing responses, based on their individual circumstances and scale, or severity of the incident. No two schools are alike, so options can vary and the report will help to fine tune the school’s security response in line with safeguarding responsibilities.

The objective of an initial security review is to provide a snapshot of the site’s security strengths and weaknesses, which not only prioritise sensitive areas, but also put the risk into context with the changes throughout the twenty-four hour day. Any recommendations will also include countermeasures that are (as far as possible) befitting the school’s circumstances and degree of exposure to the risk.
